WEST HILLS, Calif. - Dec. 3, 2015 - PRLog -- Brain tumors and children: two things that should never go together. But all too often, families are thrown into a fight  with this disease. Hundreds of children were diagnosed with brain tumors in Los Angeles over the last year. Fortunately, they discover very quickly they are not alone in the battle. Meeting them right at the outset of the diagnosis is We Can. Pediatric Brain Tumor Network.

We Can. brings together families of children diagnosed with brain tumors in order to share information and personal stories, allowing young patients, their siblings and parents to nurture and empower one another to face treatment, recovery, long-term survival, end-of-life issues or bereavement.

“Though the medical care we received was excellent, each of our families felt alone as we searched for answers to many important questions. We needed a place to share information about blood counts and central line care, nutrition during treatment, and the emotional impact of this illness on the other members of our families,” says Kathy Riley, co-founder and director of We Can. “We wondered what kind of lives our children could hope for after treatment, what long-term neurological side effects we could expect as they matured, and how we could best deal with those effects. Unfortunately, answers were frequently hard to find and we could identify no central source for the information we needed. We decided to launch this support network."

This Christmas season, children and teens will be handed the news that they are facing a foe they never imagined they’d have to face. You can play a part in lifting their spirits and providing a much needed distraction to their lives. Join with We Can and The Story Haus to put an epic tale of magic, adventure, love and flying reindeer into their hands.

The Legends of Saint Nicholas: The Emergent Son is the story of a young Nicholas, determined to free his city from the grips of a crazed General. He launches a campaign to bring food and gifts to the starving and wanting to win the heart of the city and overthrow the General in a peaceful manner. But the enemy will not go quietly, and Nicholas must use all that he learned from his father and his Elven family to unseat the mad Ruler.

“I am really excited to be working with We Can.,” says Chris Dalton, author of The Legends of Saint Nicholas and founder of The Story Haus. “They are doing such amazing work by empowering families to face something that has forever changed their lives.”

The Story Haus is offering two ways to give: donate a copy of The Legends of Saint Nicholas: The Emergent Son to be inserted into a We Can care package; or purchase a copy as a gift, and The Story Haus will donate a percentage of the sale to We Can to bolster their programs and outreaches.
