SILVER SPRING, Md. - Dec. 2, 2015 - PRLog -- Dr. Camps of Dr. Camps Pediatric Dental Center recently funded a Safe School Ambassador program at Briggs Chaney Elementary in an effort to eliminate bullying in the school.

Statistics show that 90% of elementary students have been bullied by their peers and each day more than 160,000 students stay home from school because they are afraid to attend.

As a pediatric dental office, the doctors and team at Dr. Camps Pediatric Dental Center see firsthand what bullying can do to kids. They’ve found a way to make a difference.

Through the Safe School Ambassador Program, students are selected to serve as anti-bullying ambassadors based on level of peer influence, communication skills and history of standing up for others.

The program typically costs a school around $5,000 to train students and teachers on the appropriate ways to handle bullying in the school. To give back to the community and raise awareness of such an important issue in schools, Dr. Camps has fully funded the program for Briggs Chaney Elementary.

Community Matters, the organization that founded the Safe School Ambassadors Program, will be visiting Briggs Chaney elementary school on December 3rd and 4th to begin implementing the program.

“We hope that by funding such a great program in the school, we’ll make a difference. We run Anti-Bullying contests and have an Anti-Bullying pledge book in our office but those initiatives can only go so far. By involving the schools, we hope to have an even bigger impact,” says Mandy Buchanan, Practice Manager.
