TRING, U.K. - Dec. 2, 2015 - PRLog -- On Sunday 13 December, over 90 retail businesses in the market town of Tring in Hertfordshire, will be coming together to open their doors to residents and shoppers to encourage a local initiative before Christmas – Shop Local Sunday.

The initiative is being organised by Tring Together, a registered charity supporting the local community, along with ‘I Love Tring Retail’, a recently formed group of Tring shop owners enthusiastic to promote the town. In addition to encouraging local shopping, the event aims to raise awareness of the shops beyond the High Street borders, such as Western Road, Miswell Lane, the Old Silk Mill trading estate and London Road.

Tring ‘Shop Local Sunday’ will run from 11am to 4pm and, in addition to live music, will include a retail competition where visitors can win a goodie bag with items donated by the various local shops - entrants will need to present receipts from five different shops in Tring on that date, with at least one from a business in Western Road, Miswell Lane or the Old Silk Mill.  Entry forms will be available from the Tring Together stall on Church Square on the day. For children there will be a treasure hunt organised by Anne Chatterley and entry forms will be available from the Save the Children charity shop.  Also taking place on the day, will be the judging of the best Christmas Shop window display by the Mayor.

A leaflet is now available which lists all of the retail shops in the High Street and beyond which will be distributed at Tring Shop Local Sunday and available after the event at local businesses and information points.

Tring businesses will also be supporting the wider UK initiative ‘Small Business Saturday’ taking place on Saturday 5 December 2015. Small Business Saturday is a national non-commercial campaign which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to shop local and support small businesses in their communities.  The day itself takes place on the first shopping Saturday in December each year.  Local shop owner, Toby Murrary, from Beechwood Fine Foods said, “We absolutely support any ‘shop local’ initiatives!  As online shopping becomes more widespread, especially with the use of responsive websites from smartphones, it’s incredibly important that the communities support their local shops if we are to maintain a vibrant and diverse High Street”.

Head of the charity, Vivianne Child, says, “We would like to make this an annual event and we really want to encourage shoppers out past the borders of the High Street in order to support the wider retail community, hence the treasure hunt, the competition and other activities.  We’ve got some great businesses at the further reaches of the town, which many people are not even aware of.”
