QUINCY, Mass. - Dec. 1, 2015 - PRLog -- John Fowler, Associate Principal at JACAArchitects (www.jacaarchitects.com), one of New England’s premier healthcare-exclusive architectural firms, recently attended the Massachusetts Hospital Association’s conference, “Pharmacy Compounding:  A Blueprint for Regulatory Compliance & Best Practices,” which was held in Burlington, Mass., on October 13 and 14.  Fowler was the only architect in attendance.

CriticalPoint organized this program in partnership with the Massachusetts Hospital Association (MHA) in part due to the new training requirements for all licensed compounding pharmacies regarding sterile/non-sterile compounding as a result of the response to a nearby compounding center’s recent tragic contamination outbreak.  In addition to offering comprehensive training that satisfied new Massachusetts state law requirements regarding sterile/non-sterile and Lean training for licensed pharmacists and technicians, the program also covered best practices to ensure high levels of safety.

“The program reinforced my understanding of the current regulations and forthcoming changes to the USP and Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy requirements and also best practices that I’m sharing with my colleagues and clients,” said Fowler.  “Going beyond the physical design requirements to understanding the work processes and numerous challenges facing pharmacists allows for a deeper dialogue during the design process and ultimately a better pharmacy.”

“It’s important for us as healthcare-focused architects to understand on a deeper level the types of challenges that specific medical facilities potentially face,” said Tony Cavallaro, president of JACA Architects.  “Attending a conference like this is a great way for us to gain additional information directly from people in the field, and we are glad that John represented us at this recent event.”
