Intercity Technical Training Now Offers New Courses

ILFORD, U.K. - Nov. 29, 2015 - PRLog -- The company hopes the two short, intensive programmes will improve workplace safety, especially in the construction industry where injury and risk to employee wellbeing is only too common.

During the programme, participants will improve their ability to assess workplace risks and respond to minor and more serious hazards. Health and safety is a vitally important consideration for all employers and companies are being urged to take workplace safety seriously.

According to the Health and Safety Executive, around 1.2 million people suffered from a work-related illness or accident during 2014-2015. Lost working days and associated issues cost the UK economy £14.3 billion throughout this period. In many cases, these accidents could have been prevented, or at least minimised by regular manual handling and first aid training.

Intercity Technical Training’s ‘Manual Handling’ programme is designed to raise awareness and teach workers about the dangers of heavy lifting. Injury caused by lifting objects incorrectly is one of the most common causes of injury, especially during manual labour or on building sites.

This short course will focus on safe lifting and moving, including how to reduce injury in the working environment, the correct lifting technique, the benefits of using safety aids, lifting smaller amounts, reasons to use lifting equipment, and the dangers of repetitive lifting. The course meets the recommendations of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and is suited for employees, employers and also contractors.

‘Emergency First Aid’ is an intensive, one-day course that equips construction staff with essential, practical knowledge on how to deal with workplace first aid scenarios. Although injuries can happen in low-risk environments, it is especially important to be aware of the high risk during construction.

A number of topics are covered, including treating different types of injury, the most common workplace injuries, how to successfully manage incidents, and an overview of the relevant legal issues.

The course, which is available for individuals and groups, is aimed at construction workers who are often at most risk of injury while on the job.
