New operating theatre goes up in a flash

COLCHESTER, U.K. - Nov. 26, 2015 - PRLog -- The theatre, which is due to open in February at the cost of £1.4m, will increase the number of hip and knee replacements carried out at the centre by one-third. In the last 12 months alone, more than 2,000 joint operations have been carried out on knees, hips and shoulders.

Martin Page, hospital director at the centre which Care UK runs on behalf of the NHS, said: “The theatre will be equipped to the very latest and highest specifications. The air filtration system will keep the theatre sterile and will assist us to maintain our 10-year record on zero hospital acquired infections.

“The new theatre gives us four fully functioning facilities and it’ll help us to significantly reduce the time many patients, experiencing the pain and inconvenience of worn joints, have to wait for treatment.”

Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre is one of 10 facilities Care UK's runs on behalf of the NHS that specialise in diagnostic services and surgical treatment. Together they treat more than 80,000 patients each year and cover a variety of specialty areas.

Mike Butler, who is part of the MTX Construction team managing the project, said: “The time lapse clip shows the

second day of installation where the remaining five units were lifted into position, along with the roof top steelwork and air handling plant. As shown in the video, the pre-constructed modules arrive at the site generally complete with external cladding, windows, doors and internal linings.

“The facility is made up of 10 of these modules in varying sizes and, as seen in the video, the ground floor units are installed without a floor and crane lifted directly onto a reinforced slab. This method allowed us to offer a superior internal ceiling height and the floor response factors required for a building of this nature.”
