VENICE, Fla. - Nov. 24, 2015 - PRLog -- The Venice Golf and Country Club – one of Southwest Florida’s most prestigious private golf communities – was proud to host the fifth annual Loveland Center golf tournament sponsored by Norma Jean’s Sports Bar & Grill at its newly renovated golf course and clubhouse. More than 160 attended the special event on Saturday, November 7 and raised more than $22,272 to support the Loveland Center, which provides job coaching, education, social services and respite for local adults with developmental disabilities.

“Our residents and members were thrilled to have the opportunity to support Norma Jean’s and the mission of Loveland Center,” said The Venice Golf and Country Club General Manager James Schell. “It was an honor to utilize our completely refurbished course as a place to enjoy the game of golf while raising much-needed funds for a worthwhile cause.”

Established in 1962, Loveland Center offers individualized services designed to empower adults with developmental disabilities to make informed decisions about their work, lifestyle and citizenship so that they may become more self-sufficient and interconnected within the community. Since its founding, Loveland has expanded to offer adult day training, supported employment and volunteering as well as supported living and group home services.

The shotgun-start, four-person team scramble tournament included prizes for the winners of fun challenges, including a putting contest, closest-to-the-pin and longest drive. Following the tournament, golfers were invited to the beautifully decorated clubhouse of The Venice Golf and Country Club for an awards presentation and an elegant prime rib dinner prepared by the club’s world-renowned chef, Jay Alfes.

The Loveland Center benefit is the first tournament held at The Venice Golf and Country Club following the community’s grand re-opening on Sunday, October 25, which celebrated the completion of a $2.5 million golf course and community improvement project. Among the significant enhancements to the course include a state-of-the-art irrigation system to reduce water consumption by approximately 30 to 40 percent annually; new grass on all fairways, tees and greens, with highly touted Celebration Bermuda grass on the fairways and tees and the highly successful Bermuda Tif Eagle grass on greens; and new practice areas with two putting greens, an expanded driving range and a new short-game area.

In addition to the sweeping course and community improvements, The Venice Golf and Country Club considerably reduced the golf club entry fee, extended the membership offering to non-residents of the community, and added exciting sign-on incentives for both resident and non-resident members.
