Chorus Partners with Grammy-Winning Singer Leona Mitchell for 'Sounds of the Season' Holiday Concert

TULSA, Okla. - Nov. 21, 2015 - PRLog -- Tulsa Children’s Chorus, under the direction of Charlotte Blakely, will present its annual Sounds of the Season: With a Touch of Jazz holiday concert at Boston Avenue Methodist Church on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 7:00 pm. This year Leona Mitchell, Grammy Award-winning Metropolitan Opera star, will join the chorus for this once-in-a-lifestime performance.

In addition to Mitchell’s involvement, Room 701 (Claremore Jazz Choir) and jazz pianist Larry Mitchell will also be performing. This semester, our singers have been studying the jazz movement and its theory of repertoire. The holiday concert will be an opportunity for the singers to demonstrate their knowledge and perform what they have learned in collaboration with notable artists.

The evening’s program will incorporate many holiday favorites including A Charlie Brown Christmas and the premier of Deck the Halls in 5 by local composer Erik Collins. Mitchell will perform "White Christmas” and “O Holy Night” while Room 701 takes on an unexpected arrangement of God Bless the Child.

The concert will conclude with all performers coming together to sing Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory’s arrangement of Hope for Resolution - an unforgettable juxtaposition of a European chant melody and South African (Zulu) freedom song.

The mission of the Tulsa Children's Chorus is to provide children within the Tulsa-metro area with an outstanding choral music experience.
