FPANJ 2015 Fall Conference Draws Largest Attendance to Date

Nov. 18, 2015 - PRLog -- Upper Montclair, NJ (November 2015) -  This year's 15th FPANJ Fall Conference was one of the largest attended events for the association, which has about 800 members and is one of the largest FPA chapters in the country.  The conference was held on Thursday, October 29th at the Renaissance Woodbridge Hotel. This one day event provided the opportunity for members to keep up with the latest trends and information in the industry, meet with other members, and just enjoy the entire event.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and challenges in financial planning from top industry speakers, join one of three targeted breakout sessions,  meet directly with sponsors/exhibitors, network with peers, share best practices, and enjoy a fabulous awards luncheon and wine down reception.

Keynote speaker, Michael Kitces, MSFS, MTAX, CFP®, CLU, ChFC, RHU, CASL of Pinnacle Advisory Group, Inc. delivered 2 engaging presentations on "Modern Portfolio Theory 2.0" and "Setting a Proper Asset Allocation Glidepath in Retirement:  Should Equities Decline in Retirement, Or is a Rising Equity Glidepath Actually Best?"

"With the ongoing wave of baby boomers retiring in today's tumultuous markets, making good decisions about asset allocation and portfolio design are absolutely essential," Kitces commented. "And what we're finding is that when it comes to retirement, the key to good portfolio design is very different than with accumulators and the typical rules of thumb. Because of the retiree's ongoing need for cash flow, distributions from the portfolio amplifies volatility in unique and potentially dangerous ways."

Some of the other intriguing topics included "Global Equity Income Investing" presented by Dr. Ian Mortimer, CFA of Guinness Atkinson Asset Management, Inc., plus other "must attend" topics on investing, master limited partnerships, portfolio protection, social security planning, succession planning concepts, understanding eldercare services, cybersecurity and much more.

Darryn Silver Murdoch, LCSW of Home point Financial Reverse Mortgage Network, explained why her company sponsors the event and what she enjoyed most about the event this year. "I have to admit that I was quite intimidated when I first started contributing time and energy ten years ago. Now, I am on a 'first hug' basis. Relationship integrity is a sound basis for all flourishing business exchanges. Since my practice is to make conscious choices to surround myself with people that uphold values based on freedom, value and abundance, where else would I go but the FPANJ?"

FPANJ President Bill Stratton, CFP®, said, "The growing popularity of this event among our members, guests and media, speaks to the caliber of the programming we present. The conference is a great opportunity for our members to attend top-notch education sessions and network with other members, speakers, and business partners. It's a full day, but it's one that many won't miss because of the value and information they gain in order to become the best practitioners in financial planning for the clients they serve."

Fall Conference also featured awards presentations for Lifetime Achievement and the FPANJ's Heart of Financial Planning awards among others. Read more here (http://www.fpanj.org/?page=221).
