MADISON, N.J. - Nov. 16, 2015 - PRLog -- It’s stressful to be a caregiver. Finding the time to care for a loved one while managing your own needs can be a true challenge – a challenge Chunhong Zhang is looking forward to helping families tackle head on with her new business, Home Helpers and Direct Link of Madison.

Home Helpers is the nation’s leading franchise specializing in comprehensive home care for seniors, new mothers and individuals needing recuperative and continuing assistance. Direct Link is its proprietary line of 24/7 medical alert systems, including a fall sensor and an automated medication dispenser. Home Helpers and Direct Link of Madison serves Madison, Florham Park, Morristown, Livingston, Chatham, New Providence, Summit, Berkeley Heights, Milburn, Short Hills, Gillette, Green Village, Roseland and Essex Falls.

“Everyone wants to be in a position where they can personally care for their loved ones, but it’s just not always possible. Even if you live near your aging family members, finding time to give them to care they need while working full-time, raising families and taking care of your own needs can be overwhelming. I launched this business because I want to help families provide that personal care,” Zhang said.

In the next 15 years, more than 1 in 5 Americans will be over the age of 65 and, on average, family caregivers provide 20 hours of work weekly to aging relatives. Those 20 hours are taken from time that could be spent tending to their careers, families and themselves – or even spending quality time with their aging family member.

Zhang grew up in China and immigrated to the United States in 2000. Prior to launching Home Helpers and Direct Link of Madison, Zhang spent seven years working for pharmaceutical and consumer packaged food companies, most recently as the manager of strategic pricing at Pinnacle Foods Group. She also worked as a home-based psychologist for three years. Zhang has a Ph.D. degree in Child Development and Family Studies from Purdue University and, while taking classes, took a special interest in geriatric care and the issues older people face. She also has an MBA degree from Wharton School of Business in Health Care Management.

“My husband and I were both focused on climbing corporate ladders and, when we had our two kids, we realized that one of us needed a career with a little more flexibility and financial freedom so we decided to open a business. After researching a few companies, we chose Home Helper because they’re the top name in the industry, they have a strong franchisee support network and they give us the ability to offer Direct Link to our clients,” Zhang said.

“Home Helpers is perfect combination of my education, experience and passion. My parents are back in China and are luckily in good health, but we have a saying in Chinese, ‘Love my elders, love other elders; Care for my little ones by showing care for other little ones.’ What this means is that if one cannot be home to take care of one’s elderly, then take care of the elderly people near you, e.g., your elderly neighbors. If everybody does the same, then you can trust that your family at home will be taken care of by their neighbors. Home Helpers allows me to do that. In a way, I’m doing this in honor of my parents,” Zhang said.

Home Helpers and Direct Link offers free in-home consultations and works with each client to create a flexible, affordable care plan based on a person’s individual needs. Services offered include personal care such as grooming, bathing, ambulation, medication management and care management as well as respite care, meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, companionship and transportation

With Home Helpers, each individual client receives services tailored to meet their specific needs by caregivers who become an extension of their family. Home Helpers’ full-range of home care services empower clients to live healthier and more rewarding lives in the privacy, safety, and comfort of their own homes.

“We want people to hire a business they can trust and that they are comfortable with bringing into their home – and we want that to be Home Helpers. Bringing someone into your home to care for your or for your loved one is a big deal and we respect that. We want to sit down with you, learn how you would like to age and do everything in our power to help make that a reality. Life is a precious gift and we will do everything we can to help you cherish it,” Zhang said.
