EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Nov. 11, 2015 - PRLog -- When Julie Nelson’s mother needed help staying in her own home while batting lung cancer, Julie and her sisters brought in caregivers to help her stay safe and independent when the family was unavailable. Now Julie is looking forward to providing those in-home care services for families in her own community through her new business, Home Helpers of Southwest Indiana.

Home Helpers is the nation’s leading franchise specializing in comprehensive home care for seniors, new mothers and individuals needing recuperative and continuing assistance. Direct Link is its proprietary line of 24/7 medical alert systems, including a fall sensor and an automated medication dispenser. Home Helpers of Southwest Indiana serves Evansville, Boonville, Newburgh, Lynneville, Griffin, Cynthiana, Chrisney, New Harmony, Mount Vernon, Wadesville, Fort Branch, Buckskin, Elberfield, Chandler, Haubstadt and the surrounding areas.

“After discussing care options with my mom – who lived 300 miles away – she made it clear that she wanted to remain in her home.  My sisters stayed with her and I spent a week here and there filling in when I could.  Before long, she needed assistance day and night, so we used caregivers to help when my sisters and I couldn't. It was a difficult and stressful time, but I am so thankful that we were able to keep our promise to Mom to make sure she stayed in the comfort of her own home. I’m looking forward to helping other families keep their promises to their loved ones by offering a better in-home care option,” Julie said.

Home Helpers and Direct Link offers free in-home consultations and works with each client to create a flexible, affordable care plan based on a person’s individual needs. Services offered include personal care such as grooming, bathing, ambulation, laundry, light housekeeping, meal preparation and transportation as well as medication management, care management, respite care and companionship.

Prior to opening Home Helpers of Southwest Indiana, Julie worked as the Director of Vocational Rehabilitation for Goodwill Industries of Northeast Indiana for five years and then moved into a position working with people with disabilities in a residential setting for seven years. When her daughter went to off to college in Arizona, she relocated to Arizona and worked as the Human Resources Manager for a senior home care company.  She later relocated to Evansville and returned to work with her former employer as Executive Director for Southwest Indiana.  A few years later she joined Bethesda Lutheran Communities as Area Director in order to assist them with starting up operations in the Evansville area.

“I really enjoyed the excitement, challenges and rewards of starting up Bethesda's new business and was ready to move on to my next goal of owning my own business. I wanted to do something meaningful and I decided to look at franchise opportunities because I liked the idea of using a successful business model and support system. After doing my research and meeting the corporate team, I decided that Home Helpers was exactly what I was looking for.  The systems and the people who make them work are outstanding,” Julie said.

With Home Helpers, each individual client receives services tailored to meet their specific needs by caregivers who become an extension of their family. Home Helpers’ full-range of home care services empower clients to live healthier and more rewarding lives in the privacy, safety, and comfort of their own homes.

“My caregivers and I are focused on providing top-notch care and being the best option for in-home care in the communities we serve. Let us show you what sets us apart,” Julie said.

In addition to being an active business owner, Julie is a volunteer with the local philharmonic orchestra as well as the St. Mary’s Foundation and serves on the Go Red For Women Committee with the American Heart Association.
