EDINBURGH, Scotland - Nov. 12, 2015 - PRLog -- EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND, 12 November 2015 – 'You can take the girl out of Oxgangs, but you can't take Oxgangs out of the girl'. If that isn't an old local saying, Kathy Muir might have you believe it should be. Muir, an Edinburgh native, is currently a US-based singer-songwriter who has written a song called 'Like Warriors' about childhood in Oxgangs circa 1960s - 1970s. 'I was born andraised in the Oxgangs High Rise Flats myself, Capelaw Court, to be exact,' Muir says. At 11am on November 14th, Kathy Muir will be at the Oxgangs Library to meet anyone who would like to bring their photos of life in the Oxgangs flats to be scanned and later used in a music video.

This particular project came about in typical Muir style. In past projects, she has taken a personal theme and turned it into a collaborative artistic effort via social media. So deep is the connection of people growing up in the Oxgangs block of flats that when Muir posted a few lines of lyrics with a photo of the flats on her Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/TheLeens/) page, she received an unexpected response–her page suddenly had more visits and more messages than ever before. From there, she created a separate Facebook page called Like Warriors (https://www.facebook.com/likewarriors/) dedicated to collecting photos and memories from the Oxgangs community of a bygone era. The response on that page has been overwhelming and inspired Muir to ask for the community's help in making a music video to accompany her song by allowing her to use their photos. According to Muir, 'Both Edinburgh author Peter Hoffman and David McLean of Lost Edinburgh have been brilliant in giving me advice behind-the-scenes.'

While it may seem the highrise flats at Oxgangs were just like any other non-descript architectural eyesore of the time, it became evident to Muir there was more to it. 'At first I thought maybe people were nostalgic for the flats just because they were demolished but reading the memories people have shared on the "Like Warriors" page, it became clear that sometimes magic happens in unexpected places,' says Muir.

What Muir hasn't yet announced on her website or Facebook pages is that she is actually going to the library at 10am on Nov 14th to film a live acoustic performance of 'Like Warriors' as a gift to library staff for their help and to celebrate the anniversary of the library's opening. The video and photos of the event will eventually be uploaded to the Oxgangs Library's Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/oxgangslibrary).

To have your '60s and '70s Oxgangs photos included in Kathy Muir's 'Like Warriors' video, bring them to the Oxgangs Library on Saturday, November 14th, 11am.
