Emmy®-nominated Filmmakers Appear with Film at Orpheum Theater Center in Marshalltown, Iowa

Nov. 10, 2015 - PRLog -- She was the toast of Hollywood and the darling of Paris. But Marshalltown native and movie actress Jean Seberg’s life was anything but a fairy tale and ended in tragedy. A rare opportunity for audiences to see the new updated award-winning documentary Movie Star: The Secret Lives of Jean Seberg by Emmy® nominated filmmakers Garry McGee, Kelly Rundle and Tammy Rundle will take place at the Orpheum Theater Center in Seberg's hometown of Marshalltown, Iowa November 13-14. The film kicks off Jean's 77th birthday weekend, which will include an expansive exhibit dedicated to the international film star, and a special concert by the popular music duo Mark and Amy Adams-Westin of Amy & Adams--including music featured in the documentary. It is likely the last time the film will show in Seberg's hometown.

Movie Star: The Secret Lives of Jean Seberg, which previewed at the Orpheum in 2013, has been revised and new material added to the film.  The updated version of the documentary is currently on the film festival circuit and recently won the Top Award of Excellence from the Iowa Motion Picture Association and Best Documentary at the Landlocked Film Festival.

Movie Star is the first documentary film to focus on the private side of the famous actress and examines Seberg’s very public American and international film career, civil rights era activism, and her mysterious, untimely death in Paris.

"Jean Seberg was a force of nature. This beautifully made documentary about her life as an actor, activist, and icon is filled to the brim with incredible facts and stories about the Marshalltown, Iowa native…It could not have been easy for filmmakers Kelly Rundle, Tammy Rundle and Garry McGee to craft a film that would do Jean Seberg justice, Movie Star does just that." — Little Village Magazine

Movie Star: The Secret Lives of Jean Seberg, while rich in historical detail, evolves like a gripping suspense thriller. Seberg’s legacy as a tender-hearted and complex woman ahead of her time is now preserved on film thanks to this in-depth documentary. Bravo!” — Sara Jordan, Marshalltown Times-Republican

"Movie Star is an extraordinary portrait of a stunningly beautiful young woman from Marshalltown, Iowa and her beauty came from within. I didn't want it to end." —Carol Vermeer, PATV-18.

An extensive exhibit will open on Friday, November 13, featuring Seberg photos, posters, and memorabilia. Recent materials donated to the Seberg collection by Kendall Natvig will be on display, including numerous large-format movie posters. The Seberg exhibit will be on display through January 2016.

"In addition to the film screening on Saturday, November 14th, viewers will have the opportunity to see the exhibit, and enjoy music by Amy & Adams, who have a long association with The O," said Michael Oxley, Director of the Orpheum Theater. "The Minnesota-based duo will offer an evening of great tunes from the 1920s through the 60s, as well as their own infectious original songs, all wrapped in lush accompaniments and stunning vocal harmonies."

Movie Star: The Secret Lives of Jean Seberg will screen on Friday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, November 14 at 1:00 p.m. The filmmakers will appear at both screenings and take part in Q&A following the film. Amy & Adams will take the stage in the O’s Black Box at 7:30 pm.
