Follow on Google News | The Lunar Surf House Invite Locals and Travellers to Clear The Beaches of Tamraght from RubbishBy: The Lunar Surf House Over 25 people joined the beach cleaning event, organised by The Lunar Surf House in Tamraght and supported by Surfrider Foundation Maroc. The volunteers were locals who had grown up on the beach, expats deeply concerned for their adopted environment, and travellers keen to leave a positive impact in the communities they visit. During the beach clean, volunteers received explanations on the dangers of the items found on the shore. Plastic bags, which were collected in abundance, take 450 years to disintegrate, and the broken glass left smashed on the rocks would remain a danger for up to 4000 years, had they not been removed by the beach cleaners. Irena, co-owner of The Lunar Surf House, said: “We are really excited about receiving such a great turnout for our first beach clean event. We want The Lunar Surf House to be more than just a hostel by using our position in Tamraght to contributing to a change in the environmental education of the community.” Beginning at 10 am from Devil’s Rock surf break in Tamraght, the volunteers walked North for two hours, clearing plastic bags, glass bottles, and litter as they went. With miles of beach to cover, all volunteers are keen to attend regular events in the future. About The Lunar Surf House The Lunar Surf Hostel is run by Irena and Adil, an Australian/Moroccan couple who opened their hostel in August 2015 to offer surfers and travellers a safe and fun home away from home and only a five-minute walk from the beach. The Lunar Surf House aims to protect and improve the beautiful Tamraght plage environment and promote a sustainable future for the marine environment amongst their community and guests.
