Security Mentor subject-matter experts will be available to discuss the benefits of implementing an interactive, highly engaging, security awareness training program with organizations in the oil and natural gas industry attending the conference.

“Cybersecurity is vital to the infrastructure of the oil and natural gas industry and the annual API Cybersecurity Conference & Expo provides industry leaders an opportunity to network with cybersecurity professionals, and openly discuss challenges and solutions,” said Marie White, CEO and President, Security Mentor.  “It’s a very exciting time for Security Mentor as we are seeing growing demand for our security awareness training program. With an increasing number of customers in the oil and natural gas industry, we look forward to showcasing our award-winning program at this year’s API Cybersecurity Conference & Expo.”

According to a 2015 report by Trend Micro and the Organization of American States (OAS), hacking critical infrastructure is accelerating and becoming more destructive than ever before. The global oil and natural gas industries are leading targets for this disturbing trend, and some of the key survey findings from top leaders include:

·         53% have seen an increase in cyberattacks against critical infrastructure over the past year

·         76% said cyberattacks were getting more sophisticated

In response to these trends, and to better prepare organizations for other cyber incidents, the National Association of State CIOs (NASCIO) will soon be releasing a guide that offers best practices and guidance on state government cyber disruption response plans. In a session titled “How Governments Plan to Respond to Disruptive Cyberattacks: New Readiness Guide Points the Way”,which takes place on Tuesday, November 10 at 1 p.m. (CT), Security Mentor CSO and Chief Strategist Dan Lohrmann will offer an overview of the NASCIO guide along with providing checklists for organizations in the global oil and natural gas industries for coordinating, integrating and supporting cyber disruption response planning, process, technology, governance and organization to ensure they can maintain a high level of capability and capacity in anticipating, preventing and responding to major cyber incidents.
