When it Comes to Popularity Who is Reigning Cats or Dogs?

PHOENIX - Nov. 3, 2015 - PRLog -- Whether you are an advocate of “man’s best friend” or the mindset “cats rule, dogs drool,” the debate of whether dogs or cats make the better pet was a question posed to several Royal Neighbors of America employees.

In this informal poll, cats edged out their canine competitor by a whisker. They were praised by their human parents for their cleanliness, ability to be left for a day or two while their owner is on vacation, and their unique personalities.

Darcy, a member engagement specialist, and Katherine, a philanthropy and marketing assistant, appreciate their kitty’s affection, friendship, and soporific qualities.

“Mitsy puts up with all of my hugs and kisses and never even tries to escape,” said Katherine. “She loves sleeping on top of me and kneading my belly with her little paws. She greets me when I get home and sometimes she’ll silently follow me from room to room. She’s just the cutest. She really does seem to love me unconditionally. I am unable to feel lonely when Mitsy is around!”

Darcy said her kitty, Elsa (or more regally known as Queen Elsa) inspires tranquility, and on occasion, comic relief.

“There’s nothing more relaxing then sitting on the couch watching TV with your cat snuggled on your lap and listening to her purr with contentment. My cat likes to follow me around in the morning while I’m getting ready for work. She’s been known to jump in the shower a time or two.”

Cats are more known for independence than obedience, but Brandi, who works in sales in Direct Distribution, is okay with her feline friend, Cleopatra’s, unique qualities.  Cleo carries on mewing conversations with Brandi, but the cat refuses to listen to Brandi’s husband, Ken, when he tries to discipline Cleopatra for indiscretions such as jumping on the kitchen counter.

“Cleo is special because she has lots of personality and character. She is part Siamese which brings out her mischievous side. She is my only child and I treat her as such.”

Dog lovers were equally enthusiastic about the canine members of their families. Endearing attributes include their ability to accompany their families on walks and camping excursions, their devotion and protective qualities, as well as their unconditional love. Competitive Analyst, Michael, loves his pooch, Flynn Rider. Mike said: “Dogs are more loving, more intelligent (especially poodles like mine) more protective of their families, and more cuddly.”

“Dogs know a lot more than they are sometimes given credit for,” said Elizabeth, an accountant and the owner of Zoey. “They can sense when people are unhappy or need a little extra love.”

Although dogs help guard the house from burglars and wild animals, Candy, supervisor of accounting/premium and accounting, and owner of Ziva, appreciates how dogs in her neighborhood have an egalitarian outlook toward inter-species friendships.

“Dogs make friends with the baby deer on the other side of the fence and sometimes come nose to nose with them,” said Candy. “The fawns seem to think the dogs are small deer, just like them.”

Although all pets who were interviewed for this story are currently in good health, Mitsy, Queen Elsa, Cleopatra, Flynn Ryder, Ziva and Zoey endorse the pet medication discount.
