By: Sustainable Heroes Hassan is fully dedicated to the empowerment of people in general and this project, his third of the year, will provide a serene outdoor space for those trying to better themselves. Having a safe haven while rebuilding their lives from the ground up is an invaluable element in the healing process. Hassan’ As the former host of DIY Network’s “Yard Crashers,” Hassan has become a household name in transforming run down or dilapidated backyards into luxurious outdoor spaces. He, along with his team, have taken landscaping to an entirely different level where people truly appreciate the sense of creativity, potential and endless possibilities of a blank environmental canvas. Life hasn’t always been kind to him, in fact he was homeless at one time himself so he realizes the great importance of giving back to those that are now where he once was. He also recognizes that it takes a team of extraordinary dynamic people to assist daily in helping these projects come to fruition. He is blessed with the daily assistance of Outdoor Living Designer, Duane Draughon of VizX Design Studios and Vacation Travel Advisor, Beverly Gallant of TraveLink American Express as well as a wealth of other valuable contributors from around the country who repeatedly step up each and every day to help the effort. Within the last year he has teamed up with several non-profit organizations to create beautiful outdoor spaces. In Florida, he partnered with Daniella’s Wish to develop a safe outdoor play area for a little girl diagnosed with cancer. In New Jersey, the team built an organic, edible garden area at a public school which serves low-income students. Creating an outdoor living space in conjunction with Interfaith Community Services of Escondido, CA is a special project in many ways; including the fact that it was Ahmed’s childhood friend that brought the need to his attention. The land to be transformed is part of Interfaith Community Services’ Housing Program, which provides housing support for over 400 individuals each year, including homeless parents and children, as well as seniors, adults with disabilities and veterans. The Aster Gardens Charitable Project will only add to the wonderful work this organization is already doing for Escondido’s most vulnerable community members. Founded in 1979, Interfaith Community Services’ mission is to empower people in need to stabilize and improve their lives through comprehensive programs in partnership with diverse faith communities and people of compassion. The organization provides a wide range of programs designed to empower hungry, homeless and low-income community members to begin a pathway toward self-sufficiency. Each year, Interfaith Community Services serves more than 16,000 community members by providing basic needs and nutrition support, social services, shelters and housing, employment development, youth programs, seniors services, veterans programs and addiction recovery support. A host of volunteers, community and corporate partners will join together to create an amazing outdoor landscape/foodscape and congregating space for the parents, children, families, veterans and countless others served by Interfaith.
