ScatterRadio Sponsors Youth Poet Laureate Competition In Cities Across America

SAN FRANCISCO - Oct. 29, 2015 - PRLog -- ScatterRadio, in partnership with UrbanWord, is announcing its sponsorship of The Youth Poet Laureate programs this fall in Nashville, New York, Houston, Baton Rouge and Sacramento. Demonstrating its commitment to support independent voices, ScatterRadio has teamed up with UrbanWord to sponsor these dynamic YPL programs for the second time in under a year.

UrbanWord, based in New York City, offers support to leadership on the ground in each of the cities above to design YPL programs that deepen engagement and heighten visibility for our country’s young creative minds. One such program is the Youth Poet Laureate competitions, which UrbanWord helps their partner cities launch and manage. It is estimated that this year over 30,000 youth will be participating or attending these youth poetry slams during this year’s national competitions.

The Youth Poet Laureate in each city will be determined by five judges and will receive a one-year contract with Penmanship books. In addition, the winners will have an opportunity to participate in dozens of local speaking engagements and press opportunities during their tenure as Youth Poet Laureate. The winning Youth Poet Laureate in each city will also win a spot in a newly developed podcast exclusive to ScatterRadio called, “State of the Word”. This bi-monthly podcast adds to a growing number of poetry and spoken word podcasts on ScatterRadio.
