Some fun facts about cherries…

• Michigan grows the most cherries.  There are almost 4 million cherry trees which annually produce 150 to 200 pounds of cherries.
• Maraschino cherries are also known as “cocktail cherries”.  Usually added to a food item, they also make great drinks. Add the maraschino cherry juice and you have your own DIY Cherry Coke!
• Cherries were first introduced in the United States in the late 19^th century and were served mainly in fine bars and restaurants. Since they were scarce and expensive, ways to preserve them were explored at the turn of the century.
