AML Wrestling: Cornette Cup Official Results From October 25, 2015
AML Wrestling returned to the AML Arena on Sunday, October 25, 2015 for the Cornette Cup Tag Team Tournament which determined their first Tag Team Champions.
At the start of festivities, AML ring announcer Tim Blaze announced the rules for the tag team tournament:
The matches would be contested “gauntlet”
In the first match of the tournament, The Geordie Bulldogs (Mark and Sean Denny) upset “Mr. Excellence” Brandon Scott and “Country Strong” Axton Ray with a surprise cradle. The Bulldogs then erupted in a spontaneous celebration, as this was their first-ever “victory” under the AML banner (apparently, they hadn’t listened when teams were briefed of the format.) Both Denny brothers picked up the new AML tag team belts while Blaze and AML officials tried to explain that the match wasn’t over. The Hooligans (Devin and Mason Cutter) then came out for the second bout.
The Hooligans made short work of the Geordie Bulldogs to advance in the tournament when Devin Cutter pinned Sean Denny.
Nuclear Kaasarole (Cauliflower Brown and Peter Kaasa) then narrowly defeated The Hooligans to advance in the tournament when Peter Kaasa pinned Mason Cutter after a standing moonsault.
The Heatseekers (Elliot Russell and Sigmon) then beat Cauliflower Brown when Sigmon pinned Brown after an Oklahoma Slam - flying headbutt. After the Heatseekers won to advance, The Tommy Thomas came to the ring and invoked Cedric Alexander’s AML Wrestling Championship rematch clause that he earned when he beat Caprice Coleman in a non-title match earlier this year, Thomas was able to stop the gauntlet match and force Caprice Coleman to immediately come to the ring to defend the championship.
In a thrilling bout of almost thirty minutes, Caprice Coleman retained the AML Wrestling Championship, pinning Cedric Alexander after a crucifix piledriver.
The gauntlet match then continued, as The Heatseekers cheated to beat the TNA World Tag Team Champions the Wolves (Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards). With the referee’s back turned, Elliot Russell hit Eddie Edwards with a gold belt, and the referee recovered in time to count the tainted pinfall. Then the final team came out for the last match in the gauntlet, The Heatseekers’
The Heatseekers escaped Winston Salem with the AML Wrestling Tag Team Championship in controversial fashion, defeating the Washington Bullets (Trey and Jon Williams) as Sigmon hit both Bullets with Jim Cornette’s oversized tennis racket while the referee was unconscious. The Heatseekers are the new AML Wrestling Tag Team Champions, and will be presented with the Cornette Cup trophy at Wrestlecade.
