Speaker: Life & Death: A Buddhist Perspective

By: Jim Hilgendorf

EL CERRITO, Calif. - Oct. 29, 2015 - PRLog -- Life & Death: A Buddhist Perspective is the topic of a new series of talks being presented by James Hilgendorf, filmmaker, speaker and author of ten non-fiction titles centering around three themes: A New Vision of Ourselves, A New Dream of America, A New Religion for the World.

The book upon which these talks are based is "Life & Death: A Buddhist Perspective".

Of the book, one reviewer wrote:

"Having read all or parts of nearly a thousand books dealing with spiritual matters, I cannot recall another that so simply and effectively blends the fundamentals of religion and science." - Michael E. Tymn, Journal of Religion and Psychical Research.

The talks focus not simply upon Buddhism; rather, they present insights into the subject of life and death from many different perspectives, including near-death experience research, psychology and physics, and commentary from such people as Leo Tolstoy, Carl Jung, Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, Arnold Toynbee, physicist John Wheeler, and others.

"For centuries," says Hilgendorf, "there has been a continuing conflict between science and religion.  With the rise of science, our outlook about our place in the universe has been drastically altered. People are discarding the religions they have grown up in, many of them rejecting religion outright, the dogma and authoritarianism, and turning to atheism and humanism as a means of shaping a more realistic attitude about their lives.

"But, interestingly, science and physics, in the last century, has once again turned around our ideas about the nature of reality.  Science is revealing to us a strangely interconnected world, of which we are an integral part.  The universe and everything in our environment is not just 'sitting out there', but is actually part of our life.  Science is revealing a deeply interconnected world, and this has repercussions about how we view ourselves and the world and universe around us."

The import of all of this is the crux of Hilgendorf's talks.

Hilgendorf has been practicing Buddhism for over forty years with the Soka Gakkai International, the largest Buddhist lay organization in the world now, with 12,000,000 members in 192 countries and territories around the globe.
