World Renowned Ballerina Kathryn Morgan To Perform at Detroit Opera House

DETROIT - Oct. 26, 2015 - PRLog -- DETROIT, Michigan- November 6, 2015 - Ballet in the City, a presentation company that showcases the nation’s top professional ballet dancers for performances and programming, brings An Evening With Kathryn Morgan to the Detroit Opera House on Friday November 6^th featuring excerpts from Swan Lake, Don Quixote and the premiere of The Red Shoes.

The Red Shoes presents a revamped version of Hans Christian Andersen’s original tale featuring choreography by Donald Garverick to the music of Franz Liszt. The performance showcases Morgan’s career from childhood, to the New York City Ballet, to her present day work as a paragon for burgeoning dancers and ballet fans. Senator Gary Peters, a supporter of Ballet in the City and arts education nationwide, will deliver the curtain speech for the show.

The project is the result of collaborative efforts between Morgan, Garverick and Ballet in the City director, Jessica Wallis. “This fall, Ballet in the City wanted to showcase individual dancers through intimate performances, and as Kathryn and I began collaborating, the new version of The Red Shoes was born,” states Wallis.

Through the art of ballet and transcending music, Ballet in the City brings The Red Shoes into the 21^st century.  Morgan explains, “This is not the movie version of The Red Shoes that people are used to. This is something completely new.”

In addition to the performance, Morgan will host two master classes on Saturday, November 7^th at the Daimler Chrysler Black Box Theatre. All participants are invited to a Q&A session with Morgan and will leave with an autographed headshot. Tickets for An Evening With Kathryn Morgan start at $50 and are priced up to $100 for VIP tickets, which include prime seating, access to a catered pre-show reception, and a meet and greet with Morgan. Tickets are available at balletinthecity.org.
