Follow on Google News | Why Your Vehicle Will NEVER Reach Its Claimed MPG!!!By: VanLeasing In Europe, we feel the frustration when purchasing vehicles that are labeled as fuel efficient, only for them to be up to 30% less efficient than what is on the sticker...yes 30% (even at that, we have had experts come back to us telling us the figure could be as much as 40% and climbing by year). Surely, this cannot be true? I can just imagine our American counterpart's eyes widening and jaws dropping. Who can blame them, and on the subject of blame, who or what is responsible for these huge discrepancies? VW may have cheated, but it would appear that other manufacturer are finding ways to "legally" cheat the system. They do this (it would appear) by designing cars that can perform well under the official tests that determine a vehicle's fuel efficiency and emissions. They know the test does not even come close to simulating real world driving conditions, so it appears they invest in R&D to make their cars perform well during testing rather than making them efficient for real driving conditions were there is harder acceleration / breaking, higher speeds and even cornering. However, manufacturers can not have the finger just pointed at them. It can be argued, if the test was stringent enough (without so many loopholes) and simulated real driving conditions, then this "legal" cheating would be close to being eliminated. And on that note, we bring you the EU's current test called the New European Driving Cycle (note: it has not been updated since 1997) At VanLeasing, most of our clients would consider selecting a vehicle based on its MPG figures, and we are getting increasing uncomfortable, knowing that these figures can be miles off. We have therefore made the decision to create a visual for the consideration of our clients (and anyone else out there interested), providing 8 reasons why you will never come close to reaching your vehicle's claimed mpg figures (source below). http://www.vanleasing.com/ End
