ARLINGTON, Va. - Oct. 19, 2015 - PRLog -- On Tuesday, October 20th at 11 a.m. EST, the guest on “Beyond Just Talk with S. L. Young” will be Karen L. Bune who is a domestic violence and victims’ rights advocate at the InovaAlexandriaHospital.

Ms. Bune has worked in the criminal justice system for over 35 years, in which 17 were dedicated to victim services.  Her specialty is working with victims of domestic violence.  As such, she passionately devotes her efforts and focus on issues related to victimization.  Also, Ms. Bune is a consultant on victims’ issues for the Office for Victims of Crime and the Office of Juvenile Justice Programs for the U. S. Department of Justice.

As a victims’ rights advocate, Ms. Bune was instrumental in making a convincing argument for the repeal of the marital privilege law in Maryland.  As a result, legislation was sponsored and Ms. Bune testified before the Maryland Legislature to repeal this law; however, the law wasn’t repealed.

As an authority on victims’ issues and support, Ms. Bune is a nationally recognized speaker, consultant, and trainer.  For her speaking engagements, she has presented information about domestic violence, elder abuse, workplace violence, drunk driving, and other topics.  Moreover, she teaches undergraduate and graduate victimology courses at the Marymount and GeorgeMasonUniversities --- along with being a lecturer at the AmericanUniversity.  Furthermore, she’s board certified by the Academy of Experts in traumatic stress, along with having served as a fellow for this organization.

Ms. Bune holds degrees from the AmericanUniversity: Master of Science in Administration of Justice with distinction and a Bachelor of Arts (Cum Laude) in American Studies.  Also, she has received numerous awards for her public service contributions in the area of victims’ services and rights: Recognition of Service – Office of the Prince George’s County Maryland Executive, Honor Award for Public Service – American Police Hall of Fame, and in 2015 listed in Marquis’ “Who’s Who in the World” / “Who’s Who in America.”  Additionally, she’s a freelance writer who currently writes as an expert contributor for Police One and previously for officer.com, lawofficer.com, and nycop.com.
