TOKYO, Japan - Oct. 18, 2015 - PRLog -- Today the Remote Islands Society of Japan (RitoSoc) has announced Keiko Ono as interim Managing Director. She will be responsible for promoting young leaders engaged in foreign policy from hundreds of remote island communities across the archipelago.

Being of mixed Japanese-Papua New Guinean descent, Keiko shares a deep interest in Japan's remote islands and understands the need for greater engagement with young leaders in island communities. She will be responsible for providing a global platform for youth engaged in foreign policy dedicated to providing a greater understanding of the thousands of island communities outside of the four main island groupings namely Honshu, Kyushu, Hokkaido and Shikoku.

'With over 6,000 smaller islands, Japan's rich island history and communities have remained lesser known to the international and mainland community' says Keiko. 'Despite being the world's second largest achipelago, there have been too few opportunities to understand the full diversity of Japan's thousands of isles. I hope that my role with the Remote Islands Society will help enrich our appreciation of the challenges and insights these unique island communities offer.'
