By: Remote Islands Society (RitoSoc) Being of mixed Japanese-Papua New Guinean descent, Keiko shares a deep interest in Japan's remote islands and understands the need for greater engagement with young leaders in island communities. She will be responsible for providing a global platform for youth engaged in foreign policy dedicated to providing a greater understanding of the thousands of island communities outside of the four main island groupings namely Honshu, Kyushu, Hokkaido and Shikoku. 'With over 6,000 smaller islands, Japan's rich island history and communities have remained lesser known to the international and mainland community' says Keiko. 'Despite being the world's second largest achipelago, there have been too few opportunities to understand the full diversity of Japan's thousands of isles. I hope that my role with the Remote Islands Society will help enrich our appreciation of the challenges and insights these unique island communities offer.' About the Japan Remote Islands Society (RitoSoc) The Remote Islands Society (RitoSoc) is a constituent society of the Islands Society. As one of six regional groupings, RitoSoc is dedicated to inspiring and empowering Japanese remote islanders to participate in foreign affairs and overseas engagement in order to affect positive changes in their local communities.
