Will Derren Brown win over the Christian evangelists?
Professional sceptic and master magician set to feature on the cover of 'wholesome' Christian lads' mag.
By: Independent News Limited
Originally launched by the appropriately named Russell A. Church, Sorted was rebranded with financial support from CVM (Christian Vision for Men) as a 'wholesome Christian lad's mag with morals'. However, this support came at a cost, as CVM and its growing evangelical membership seemed to gain control and influence over editorial policy.
During a year where gay rights, the laws on same sex marriage and members of the conservative evangelical movement have clashed, it has been pointed out that Sorted magazine has steadfastly avoided featuring any coverage, let alone support, of LGBT equality.
Accusations were made of a 'covert anti gay agenda' and ad agencies fell shy of recommending their clients associate products with a magazine that could be conceived as bigotted and backward.
This did not go un-noticed by directors or shareholders of Sorted magazine's publishing company, who immediately campaigned to implement progressive changes in editorial attitudes.
"I think many people have a misconception that being a Christian is all about perfection when probably it's more about progression,"
After reportedly bitter behind the scenes battles, Sorted's editors and its CVM investors have finally relented.
Acting editor Steve Legg admitted; "This latest edition is a real belter!"
Christian Vision for Men's founder and president, Pastor Carl F. Beech, was unavailable for comment.
Magician and avowed LGBT rights supporter Derren Brown is to feature on the cover of the November / December edition of Sorted magazine. The Christmas edition will be available from WHSmith and all good newsagents across the country.
