Indie Authors Shine at New York ComicCon 2015!

NEW YORK - Oct. 6, 2015 - PRLog -- Among the lights, big movie screenings and vendors is something brand new at this year’s New York Comic Con (NYCC) – its first ever panel highlighting small press and independent authors and their journey to success on their own terms.

“The Next Big Thing: Indie Authors Creating Brave New Worlds” panel will premiere at NYCC on Friday, October 9^th from 1:30pm-2:30pm at the Javits Center in downtown Manhattan.  The discussion will feature some of the most exciting new voices in comics, animation, graphic and sci-fi novels.  The panelists include April Adams, author of the genre-bending GwenSeven Saga, Greg Garay, creator of the Jack B: Ride the Air comic series, Neil Gibson, Twisted Dark graphic novel series creator and T-pub founder, Nilah Magruder, award-wining creator of the M.F.K comic series, and Cerece Rennie Murphy, best-selling author of the Order of the Seers Trilogy.  Each of these indie creators is pushing the boundaries of story telling to bring exciting new worlds and fresh perspectives to the speculative fiction landscape. The panel will be moderated by Michael “7” Michael and Dean Plakas of SonicEclectic.

Cerece Rennie Murphy came up with the idea for an indie-focused panel after exhibiting at NYCC in 2014.  “I know that the kinds of stories people crave are out there.  Everything from diversity in the types of stories that are told and who’s telling them to a departure from overused tropes - independent artists have been creating these stories for years. The question is how do we let people know about the authors who are doing all this great work?  Having the panel at NYCC is a good way to raise that awareness with an audience that is ready and willing to listen.”

“We’re looking forward not only to sharing our work with the NYCC audience, but also letting folks know that it is possible to tell unique stories and find an audience.  We’re hoping to both inform and inspire.”

These artists are pushing the boundaries of conventional storytelling to bring fresh characters & new perspectives to the genre. Meet these exciting independent voices and learn about their journey to success on their own terms. The panel will be held in Room 1B03 of the Javits Center.
