Henry Hoovers have the reputation of lasting years for a very good reason, they do!

There are however a few things you can do to keep Henry happy & healthy:

1 – Stop Henry from over-heating by always unwinding the cable fully. Keeping the cable inside Henry’s head forms an electrical coil this creates heat & will make Henry stop in his tracks.

2 – Clear That Hose Henry’s super suction can often pull unsuspecting items up his hose & block it. Over our 34 years of selling Henrys we have retrieved pants, socks, tights, nails, screws, hair grips & even screwdrivers out of various Henrys hoses.

If you think your vacuum’s hose might be blocked firstly unscrew it from Henry’s nose & then get a £1 coin & throw it down the hose. If it appears then there is no blockage! If there is a blockage get a mop/broom handle push it into alternate ends of the hose to dislodge whatever is sitting there. You can also use the power of Henry to help by inserting the hose nozzle into the drum of the machine as pulling the blockage the other way will often loosen it.

3 – Prod Henrys dust bag on a regular basis to make sure it’s not too full.

If it’s 90%+ full change it. If it’s burst then make sure you clean all the loose dust out. Give it a wipe with a damp cloth, allow to dry & fit a new bag

4 – Check The Filter Make sure the filter is clean & dust free. If you have another vacuum use this to clean the filter once a month. If you don’t have another vacuum use a handy wall to beat the dust out. Remember to stand down wind as the filter dust will be very fine & may aggravate your chest.

5 – Bottoms Up Check the underside of Henry’s head. Make sure the vacuum is unplugged. The metal you can see through the grill or holes (depending on how old your Henry is) is the actual motor & the fans. If there is any visible debris carefully remove it.

6 – Inspect The Swivel Hose Finally check both ends of your hose to make sure they are still swivelling. Both hose ends comprise of 3 parts. A part that threads onto the corrugated hose (please note this is a left hand thread), the part that either screws onto the machine or pushes onto the metal tubes & a collar with lugs on that locks it all together. Depending on the age of the Henry you should be able to disassemble these parts if there is a problem. Taking great care & using very little pressure insert a large flat screwdriver into the lug hole & gently lever the retaining clip off.

Remove any debris that is stopping the ends from swivelling then clip all back together. Also please note the part that screws onto the vacuum and the hose end that pushes onto the metal tube hose ends are available to buy as spare parts – you don’t need to replace the whole hose.
