LOS ANGELES - Oct. 19, 2015 - PRLog -- Los Angeles -- A single misstep changed Rodney Barnes’s life forever. In MY MIRACLE, the author recounts the story of the accident that resulted in the traumatic brain injury that left him unable to walk or speak. This dramatic tale encompasses Rodney’s life from his childhood through his accident and recovery. The author’s transformation after surviving a major trauma consists not only of his extraordinary physical recovery but also a spiritual awakening.

Rodney Barnes lived a happy life with a loving and supportive family in St. Petersburg, Florida. His childhood consisted of working in the family business, attending Catholic school, and stock car racing. As he grew older, Rodney devoted more time to hanging out with his friends and partying. Like many young people, Rodney spent time after high school trying to figure out what he wanted to do with his life. During this part of his journey, Rodney began to gradually release his hold on his Christian faith.

Rodney frequently worked with his father doing construction jobs, including roofing work. In August of 1991, Rodney and his father were installing a cool roof. He had just turned twenty-one. As Rodney and his father were finishing up their work, Rodney started taking old roof tiles off the roof. During one of his trips down the ladder, Rodney lost his balance and fell to the ground where he struck his head. He was dazed but managed to get up after a short time. The accident happened on a Friday. After suffering with a throbbing headache as he navigated through the weekend, Monday, August 26, found Rodney barely conscious and unable to move.

He was transported to the hospital via ambulance where his family was informed that the fall three days earlier had caused a subdural hematoma. Doctors operated on the left side of Rodney’s head to drain the clot. Following the surgery, Rodney was unable to move, see, hear, or speak.

In MY MIRACLE, Rodney shares his recovery from his traumatic brain injury, and he writes with humility about the loving support he received from his family and the health-care professionals at the rehabilitation facility where he learned to speak and walk and care for himself again. During his recovery, Rodney was inspired by the many prayers family and friends offered up on his behalf. As he gradually learned to use his body and mind again, Rodney’s heart reopened to God, and he grabbed hold of his Christian faith once more.

MY MIRACLE explores Rodney’s life before, during, and after his life-altering injury. The book illustrates the inspiring transformation of a young man who, after surviving a major trauma, went on to complete college, find fulfilling work, and become a husband and father all with a renewed devotion to God and gratitude for life. “From this journey I have found myself!” Rodney says. “I have found a person who can reach out and touch so many lives just by telling true past experiences and understanding where these people are in their lives. It’s so overwhelming for me to think God has me here for this, touching so many lives for the better.”

Rodney’s decision to write MY MIRACLE was the result of his desire to help other people who have survived trauma or loss or who have simply gotten off track in their lives. “I want people to read my words and learn from my history and see the mistakes I made in my life so that there might be a chance that they will not have to experience what I did. It was hard for me to lose everything I had at twenty-one years old. But a very outstanding opportunity came from all of this trouble. I was brought back into this world for a new purpose and a new reason. I am a new person in the same body who now has an enormous outlook on life and has found a relationship with Jesus Christ,” Rodney says.
