WASHINGTON - Oct. 2, 2015 - PRLog -- (OCTOBER 2, 2015, NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK) Late yesterday, Gotham Chamber Opera ceased to exist after uncovering a black hole of deficit, according to Norman Lebrecht writer for Slipped Disc, an online community for the inside track on classical music and related cultures. The sad fact is classical music as many have known it in the past, is not as appealing as it could be, according to a source from the Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts (CAAPA), a non-profit 501c3 arts organization based near Washington, DC. The organization, known for its innovative audience development, community outreach, arts education, and arts partners programming, offers stimulating, energizing, and refreshing classical music opportunities to all ages and backgrounds staying true to its mission to help "Bring Color to the Classics" in new and different ways.  As a result, the twelve-year old organization has becomes more and more popular with non-traditional, diverse, and younger audiences, while maintaining their traditional audience base. One prime example is the first-ever Blacks in classical music cruise they have scheduled for November 6-13, 2016 aboard the baroque-themed Carnival Pride out of Port of Baltimore, Maryland.

“Never before has an organization juxtaposed a 7-day luxury liner cruise with onboard performances by Black classical musicians”, stated Executive Director, Terri Allen.  In addition, the organization has partnered with Bahaman musical groups for onshore performances and will shuttle guests to venues in both Nassau and Freeport. “Arias at Sea: Blacks in Classical Music Cruise” features onboard recitals performed by musicians including soprano Angela Simpson, mezzo Bridgette Cooper, bass/baritone Marvin Lowe, tenor Issachah Savage, pianist Dr. Lester Green, Broadway soprano N’Kenge and others, along with recent National Medal of Arts Awardee George Shirley, tenor, serving as Host.

Portion of proceeds benefit CAAPA’s Scholarship Fund. Gifts to the Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts (CAAPA) are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. CAAPA is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization (FEIN 26-0093440).Interested parties can contact the CAAPA offices at 301-839-1444, email info@4caapa.org for more information, or visit the group’s website at www.4caapa.org.

CAAPA supports and boosts all classical music performances, ultimately encouraging patrons to see operas in a major houses throughout the world and on the high seas.
