FORT MYERS, Fla. - Oct. 2, 2015 - PRLog -- Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, Inc® is teaming up with local automotive professional Pam Oakes ASE/EETAS to provide a new automotive tech training program in Southwest Florida. The six-week program will combine classroom instruction with hands-on technology, enabling students to have the knowledge and skill to earn ASE G1 certification and perform the duties required of the certification.

The auto industry is expected to grow by 30 percent through 2022. Careers as ASE certified auto technicians are currently in the top 20 jobs for high median earnings.

“There is so much opportunity in the automotive industry for those properly trained and ASE certified,” says Oakes, a fourth-generation auto mechanic. “This is the perfect first step for future Master ASE techs.”

Oakes will start the series by introducing repair shop lube techs to the world of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and the G1 (general maintenance) certification, starting Oct. 15.

As part of the organization’s mission of helping people overcome barriers to employment and independence, Goodwill (http://www.goodwillswfl.org) will supply student materials and the classroom facility. The nonprofit agency will also cover the cost of the ASE G1 test. Goodwill’s trained Job-Link coordinators will assist students as they develop resumes, practice for job interviews, apply for automotive jobs, and prepare for job interviews.

Class participants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and complete a required orientation session. A $40 deposit is required, and graduates will receive their deposit back after graduation from the program.

For more information or to sign up for classes, contact Dorothy Browning, Goodwill’s community education coordinator, dorothybrowning@goodwillswfl.orgor 239-995-2106, ext. 2304.
