By: Friends of the Davie Farm Park “We want to educate the community about the vital roles that farming and good nutrition play in our lives,” says Donna Evans, president of the Friends of the Davie Farm Park. “Kids think their food comes from the grocery store, and the Davie Farm Park is a great way to help them understand where their food actually comes from and learn about healthy eating habits.” Visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to learn about agricultural production from seedling to market and about the area’s agricultural history in a “hands-on” The park’s mission is “making a difference,” Additional proposed elements for the farm park include: • an educational farming area for the crops, fruit trees, and recreational trail • a barn/education center with livestock as well as pastureland • an equestrian area and public trail connection • a playground with farm-themed equipment • picnic pavilions/outdoor classrooms • a farm and wildlife observation overlook • a butterfly garden • native landscaping • space for events and public meetings Friends of the Davie Farm Park Inc is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. The group’s mission is to preserve and protect the past, present, and future of Davie’s agriculture and natural resources through education and demonstration.
