Fight Pancreatic Cancer at The 5th Annual Purplestride at NRG Park, Nov 21, 2015

HOUSTON - Sept. 28, 2015 - PRLog -- Today, in the United States, only seven percent of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer will survive more than five years. More than 2,000 people will join in the movement to change the future for this disease and double survival by 2020, at PurpleStride Houston. The timed run and awareness walk taking place on Saturday, November 21st will raise awareness and funds to support the mission of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to advance research, support patients and create hope.

A kids’ zone, live music, refreshments, educational opportunities and more are also on the agenda.  Festive purple themed costumes are optional but are always a big part of the “fun” in the fun run.

To date, the Houston Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s annual PurpleStride events have earned $1,063,921 for pancreatic cancer research. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States.

Youth registration is for ages 3-12. Children ages 2 and under are not required to register.

Krishna Bowers, chair of this year’s Houston PurpleStride event, shares why she strides: “In July of 2011 I lost my mother to pancreatic cancer.  She was 59 and only lived 82 days after her diagnosis.  This year will be my 5th PurpleStride. Each year I stride in memory of Diana King Smith.”
