Sept. 28, 2015 - PRLog -- Award winning filmmakers Ryan Hendrick & David Newman’s acclaimed short film has had a successful start to the year. Premiering at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in May, the Christmas comedy has travelled across the globe screening at film festivals in USA, Canada, The Republic of Ireland, Italy and even Cyprus. But now the filmmakers are overjoyed that the film is now headed for the homeland.

In it’s 5th year, the Southside Film Festival has chosen to screen Perfect Strangers as part of this year’s local short film line up. The independent film festival based in Glasgow’s Southside focuses on the local culture and talent of the area.

BAFTA nominated director Ryan Hendrick said, “We are thrilled that our little film is finally returning home for its first Scottish screening after a successful few months on the festival circuit. We were so incredibly lucky to be able to take Perfect Strangers to Cannes, it has opened so many doors for us.”

Perfect Strangers tells the story of two people stranded in the Scottish Highlands on Christmas eve that team up to try and get home in time for Christmas. It was shot on the beautiful Rannoch Moors in Glencoe over 5 days last winter. The 26 minute film was a testing ground for the filmmakers as they prepare to embark on their debut feature film Journey Bound, a comedy road movie starring Ford Kiernan, Clare Grogan, Sylvester McCoy and Rutger Hauer.

“It is crucial to enable independent filmmakers working with very little resources to get their films out there. It’s incredibly challenging on the festival circuit and you always receive far more rejections than you do acceptance notices.”

“Independent film festivals like the Southside Film Festival need to be supported. In the wake of the Edinburgh Film Festival being heavily criticized in the press for being nepotistic in it’s selection process, it is vital that the smaller independent film festivals in Scotland exist to help the filmmakers of tomorrow."

Perfect Strangers is playing as part of the Southside Film Festival on Sunday 11th October at 4.30pm at the Glad Cafe, Pollockshaws Road.
