Nashville based Acoustic Soul Singer-Songwriter Anitra Jay & The Rebellion at Crosstown Arts-Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Sept. 24, 2015 - PRLog -- Singer/songwriter Anitra Jay is bringing her sultry vocals to town for an unforgettable evening of acoustic music and art at Crosstown Arts, Thursday, Oct 15, 2015 at 7pm. Listeners will experience “a soulful combination of music, improv comedy, live art, and community."

Anitra Jay is described as a purveyor of inspiration as she traverses genres and defies boundaries.  A multi-talented artist in both spoken word and music, her shows are filled with powerful vocals, improv comedy, sing alongs, and foot stomping grooves.

In 2011, Jay released her self-produced debut album titled, “Keep the Faith,” a 12 track project chronicling a musical conversation about life’s battles and triumphs.  A year later she released her sophomore album, “Genesis,” saluting a fresh start in relationships, careers, and self-confidence.  The positive message conveyed in her music garnered the attention of Pride Magazine, a Charlotte periodical which featured her song “On a Dime and a Dream,” in an article about hope and inspiration.  After being nominated for Best Singer-Songwriter of 2013 during her tenure in Charlotte, NC, she has now completed a third studio album “Cown & Glory,” featuring songs about self-confidence and empowerment.

Concerts with Anitra Jay always include improvisation and exciting interplay between her and the audience epitomizing what great live music is all about. She will debut songs from her upcoming album, “Work in Progress” alongside her band, The Rebellion.  The upcoming show at Crosstown Arts in Midtown will include these elements as well as showcasing live art from visual artist Rodan.

Also known as Daniel Ross, this Memphis-based artist focuses on telling the story of the Black American journey through art. He was educated at Tennessee State University and Memphis College of Art. Over the years he has perfected the use of hard to soft graphite and clay on cold press board, striving to make his work appear photo realistic. Through a technique he calls “loose realism”, Rodan exhibits control but not controlled paintings that will never let us forget the contributions of those who have paved the way for us in civil rights, music, literature and culture.

Musical artist, Fred X who is also on the bill will kick off the evening with 20 minutes of rugged soul. Frederick “Fred X” Franklin is a musician, singer, songwriter, and is the founder of Melanated Music ©. He is in the beginning stages of recording his debut album, “Infinite” which should hit shelves around Fall 2015. Fred X has collaborated with many different artists and has performed all over the world. Born in Tuscaloosa, AL , Fred X moved to Memphis, TN at the age of 10 and attributes his smooth and soulful but rugged sound to the "Bluff city". “Memphis is gritty and grimy, yet smooth and soulful at the same time. “ I remember going to different parks and Beale street seeing the different music acts hustling the street trying to get a point across in there own unique and raw way. "That’s what you hear when you listen to me. “I can only preach about what’s real to me and what happened to me, and what I’ve seen,” says Fred X.
