NEW YORK - Sept. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Sharon Lawrence, a.k.a (Rima Anajay), is a dynamic, poetic, hip-hop artist, from Suffolk Virginia, that’s one of Hampton Roads unsung heroes. She has been nominated by Urban Threshold Enterprise, the creators of the Underground Music Awards, as the “Most Original Female Artist of the year. This event is the equivalency of the Grammy’s, and will take place in New York City, October 23rd-25th.

Born and raised in Hampton Roads, Sharon’s writings were influenced by the crime, poverty, illiteracy and police brutality in her community. Feeling powerless and invisible, Rima took her frustration to paper, and turned her pain into spoken word. Her commitment to bringing awareness to the economic and social injustices destroying African-American Families, has been her life’s mission. Her love for the black and brown community and hope for the future of the children in these forgotten communities, has been the driving force behind her artistry.  She has transformed her poetry from handwritten words on a page, to a strong militant voice with an African-American perspective.

This revolutionary warrior is one of Virginia’s most ferocious lyricist, and a hypnotic power house to her listeners. Rima’s realism and transformational lyrics have captivated the underground hip hop world. Her nomination is a tremendous achievement and an opportunity to join the ranks of past recipients such as Nicki Minaj, Remy ma, Cory Gunz, Freeway and many more. Rima is this area’s tight verse over a phat beat. Her poetic stylings have the edge of Sista Souljah, and the realism of Nikki Giovanni, spread over a classic hip hop beat.  Her throw back style brings the focus of hip hop back to the flow and the message.

Equally to her credit, Spoken word, as she is affectionately known in the poetry world, has an even larger following of her poetry. Through spoken word, she has developed an activism platform that has helped to educate, inspire, and bring awareness to Human Right issues in impoverished communities all across the globe. Her passion for social justice extends beyond the 757.  Through her company, Word Life Production, she has produced multiple albums, published books, poems and songs. Also, Rima developed a magazine entitled NEW Africa-All Shades of Brown, that is dedicated to sharing the experiences of African Cultures across the globe.

To conclude, the winners of the Underground Music Awards (UMA) are determined via online voting by the general public.  The votes will be tabulated and the winners will be announced at the UMA Awards ceremony.  Attending the awards ceremony and winning the award would help to solidify Rima’s place in history with the other receipients.  However, she can’t achieve this monumental goal without the help of the community.
