ST. LOUIS - Sept. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- St. Louis, MO. – St. Louis Rams Defensive End Chris Long, The Chris Long Foundation and technology company Mobovivo have launched the official Waterboys app. Developed by Mobovivo, the app will allow fans to engage with the Waterboys Initiative by taking and sharing photos for the recently launched #Drink4Water campaign. In addition, the app allows fans to support Long and the 21 other NFL “waterboys” in their effort to raise money to build wells and provide clean water for communities in East Africa.

To engage each respective fan base in the cause, the group of “waterboys” will promote the newly launched Waterboys app throughout the NFL season as a donation portal and a social media engagement point. Through the Waterboys’ unique “competition for a cause” model, fans can also track their NFL team’s progress and enjoy special features that allow tracking and sharing of photos.

The players and fans will leverage Mobovivo's technology platform to interact and participate in the Initiative’s primary social media campaign, #Drink4Water. Players and fans capture and share photos with the hashtag #Drink4Water to show support and challenge each other to donate. Photos posted and donations made are updated in real-time both in the app and on the interactive website, www.waterboys.org.

Long has been building a team of NFL “waterboys,” one player for each of the 32 NFL teams, since early 2015. Each "waterboy" serves as the face of the Initiative within their respective NFL market and simultaneously works to raise money and awareness in pursuit of building a team dedicated well in East Africa. The first year goal of Waterboys is to raise enough funds by the end of the 2015-2016 season to build 32 wells representing each NFL team. Each deep borehole well will provide clean water for communities of 5,000 – 7,500 people, resulting in a combined effort that will provide clean water to over 160,000 suffering people.

NFL fans, media and corporate sponsors are invited to spread awareness for the cause through the #Drink4Water campaign by downloading the official Waterboys app in the Apple App Store or by visiting www.waterboys.org.

About Waterboys:

Waterboys got its start during a 2013 trip by Long to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Long was struck by the beauty of Tanzania and the vibrancy of its people, but also witnessed great suffering due to a lack of clean water. While in Tanzania, Long met Doug Pitt, Goodwill Ambassador for Tanzania, and John Bongiorno, President of the non-profit WorldServe International and was further educated on the needs and available solutions to the clean water crisis.

Returning home, Long began to envision a pathway to champion the need for clean water in East Africa and engage other NFL players in the cause. In 2015, Long created the Waterboys Initiative, selecting WorldServe International as its benefiting charity. Waterboys will work with WorldServe International to build wells to provide life-giving water and all that comes from it – the opportunity for education, good health, and economic stability. There are currently 22 “waterboys,” including Long that are committed to the effort.
