TORONTO - Sept. 21, 2015 - PRLog -- Unfortunately, recent statistics show that 31 million men and 21 million women suffer from hair loss of some kind, including thinning hair, bald spots or alopecia.  It is also unfortunate that many people are unaware of Scalp Micropigmentation, which is the latest treatment offering that helps combat baldness and thinning hair, and is a great alternative to hair transplants and hair systems.

What is Scalp Micropigmentation?

Scalp Micropigmentation has been around since the 90s, however, has only finally gained recognition in the last decade.  Scalp Micropigmentation goes by many names, including: SMP, Medical Hairline Tattoo, Scalp Tattoo, Medical Hairline Restoration, and Hair Follicle Simulation.

Regardless of the name, the treatment is the same.  Scalp Micropigmentation consists of using a fine tattoo needle that is the same shape and size as a hair follicle to implant pigment into the scalp.  The scalp contains approximately 2000 hair follicles per square inch, and thus, the SMP Artist must tattoo thousands of microdots into the scalp, which gives the appearance of a freshly shaved head of hair, or a buzzcut.  The results look very natural, and it is a much safer and better option that hair transplantation, hair plugs, toupee or wigs.  Leaving no scarring and healing within days, not months or years.

How is Scalp Micropigmentation different from getting a tattoo?

A tattoo traditionally requires a much thicker needle and the pigment is injected deeper into the skin. The piercing is generally much more painful and it is not uncommon for the equipment to draw blood out of the skin. The ink which is used for tattoos fade away faster, but the ones used for SMP retains its color for a much longer period of time.  The only similarity between Tattoo and Scalp Micropigmentation is the act of injecting a pigment into the skin using a needle.  Mr. Barbone states “SMP is a specialty of Tattooing.  We are not tattoo artists, and rarely use tattoo equipment or pigments.  Our pigments are natural, iron oxide free, and do not fade or turn blue or green.”

How are the results?

Tino Barbone, CEO of Scalp Esthetica states “The results of having an SMP treatment are natural, and most of the time, undetectable.  There are thousands of men and women out there that have the treatment, and you wouldn’t even know it.”  The results of getting a SMP treatment are seen immediately. The head would look like it is full of hair follicles, which will make it look like you have recently shaved it. For people who use it to treat bald spots and thin hair, it looks like the density of hair has dramatically increased.

SMP makes a great non-surgical alternative to treating hair-loss and other such scalp problems. The effects of the treatment last for decades, if it is done properly. There are some post-procedural after care steps, which you need to take so that the ink lasts for long. It is also okay to have multiple SMP treatments over a period of time so as to simulate a slowly receding hairline or changing hair color.

What about Men and Women with Thinning Hair?

SMP or Scalp Micropigmentation works for both Men and Women of any age, skin type and skin color, and works at any stage of baldness.  Many Men and Women come into the office with thinning hair in the top or crown area of the scalp.  SMP works to create the appearance of density in the scalp by camouflaging the scalp with thousands of microdots.  This effect creates hair density and fullness, giving the appearance of a full head of hair.

What about Scalp Scars?

SMP can be used to cover scars on the scalp using the technique described above.  SMP is a great adjunct treatment to hair transplant scarring, and to help add density to an area that may have scarred on the scalp from the hair transplant treatment.  Whether you are bald, balding or have scars from medical treatments, SMP can help.  Scalp Esthetica has seem many clients who’ve had hair transplants, however, the treatment may have resulted in scarring from the donor area or clients have had good results, but lack the density in hair they would like.  SMP is used to both cover up the scarring, and SMP is able to flatten out and camouflage the scar.

Mr. Tino Barbone, CEO and SMP Artist at Scalp Esthetica, is exceptionally skilled in the art of Scalp Micropigmentation and SMP Hair Density treatments in Toronto, Ontario.  At Scalp Esthetica, the treatment takes approximately 4 – 6 hours, and administered in two or three sessions.  Scalp Esthetica guarantees their work for 12 months, should any SMP follicles fade.  The treatment itself can last between 8-10 years, or longer, depending on the individual, and how they manager their own after care.
