Here is a list of the top 10 US states for foreclosure and the corresponding new foreclosure rates for December 2014 as compiled by Bankrate.com:

1) New Jersey: 1 in every 286 housing units received a foreclosure filing.

Change in filings from last month: Up 67 percent

Nationally: 1 in every 1,153

2) Maryland: 1 in every 538 housing units received a foreclosure filing.

Change in filings from last month: Up 8 percent

Nationally: 1 in every 1,153

3) Florida: 1 in every 546 housing units received a foreclosure filing.Change in filings from last month: Down 15 percentNationally: 1 in every 1,153

4) Illinois: 1 in every 663 housing units received a foreclosure filing.Change in filings from last month: Up 28 percentNationally: 1 in every 1,153

5) Nevada: 1 in every 680 housing units received a foreclosure filing.Change in filings from last month: Up 15 percentNationally: 1 in every 1,153

6) Delaware: 1 in every 822 housing units received a foreclosure filing.Change in filings from last month: Down 16 percentNationally: 1 in every 1,153

7) Ohio: 1 in every 927 housing units received a foreclosure filing.

What’s the final tally? Foreclosure filings increased 1.53 percent nationally from November to December. Please don’t be fooled into thinking “the economy is great” or “prosperity is flourishing”. Real estate markets are local, and Americans are individuals with unique circumstances. And rest assured, David Letterman won’t be presenting this top 10 list…
