BERLIN - Sept. 16, 2015 - PRLog -- As of October 2, ‘art place berlin – forum for contemporary art’ shows impressive paintings by North and South Korean artists in a collective exhibition. Under the title ‘Uni-Korea Art Exhibition - From Baekdu to Halla’ the South Korea based organization ‘NANUM The World Peace Cultural Festival’ initiated a series of exhibitions with venues in Seoul (South Korea), Shenyang (China), Berlin, New York and Pyongyang (North Korea).

After the successful exhibitions in Seoul and Shenyang, the Uni-Korea Art Exhibition at ‘art place berlin’ would like to take the occasion of the 25th anniversary of German reunification, to set an example for overcoming even the division of Korea.

The subtitle of the exhibition ‘From Baekdu to Halla’ makes it clear that the exhibition aims to represent the whole Korea, from Mt. Baekdu on the border with China in the North to Mt. Halla on Jeju Island in the South.  Mt. Baekdu in North Korea is still revered by all Koreans as place of origin of their ancestors. Korea's first kingdom took here in 2333 BC. its beginning.

Despite the extremely different development in the two parts of Korea during the past seven decades has been preserved much common values and lives the desire for the reunification of the country. In particular, prove again the artists not only as a trailblazer of the new, butalso askeepers oftradition.

As exemplary for the aim of the exhibition, to impart the connectedness of both parts of Korea sustained expression trough impressive works by their artists, is to be regarded the painting "Haenyeo or Female Divers" by North Korean artist Myong Su CHOE.

With his oil painting from 2012 he devoted himself in a subtle way a subject which in the north and especially in the south, on the island of Jeju, is of great traditional significance.

Due to the masterful representation of the motif Myong Su CHOE’s painting is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the exhibition, more so as the size of 1.62 x 3,48m appears very imposing.

Just as remarkable, but small in size of 60 x 89cm, is the painting "Dusk at Lake Shore" by Min Gu KIM, the oldest artists represented in the exhibition. Born 1922 in Wonsan, Gangwon (in the north), he received his education at Tokyo Fine Art Institute. Later he received the title "People's Artist", as the highest degree of professional recognition for artists in North Korea.

But even the contemporary art from South Korea is prominently represented in the exhibition among others by Hae Il Kim and Hyun Kook SHIN whose works ‘First Snow’ and ‘Echo of Mountain’ for the implementation of the exhibition idea have a very special meaning. They contribute to the fact that the visitors to the exhibition will be surprised by an unexpected harmony.

Today, when communication between the artists from the North and the South unfortunately is still hardly possible, at least the exhibition shows their works side by side in a corresponding hanging. It becomes clear how strong still the common roots are.
