Follow on Google News | Trailnet’s Share the Street Party / Ride the Rivers Century ride 9/20By: Trailnet “We want to activate as many participating groups as possible in pursuit of building for better walking and biking in St. Louis,” said Ralph Pfremmer, Trailnet’s executive director. “Everyone is invited to this free event—which includes live music presented by the St. Louis Blues Society—to join the conversation and help us raise critical funds to benefit Trailnet’s advocacy work.” The party will be held at the Old Post Office Plaza in downtown St. Louis, where the Ride the Rivers Century starts and finishes. While the event will honor those participating in Trailnet’s 2015 Ride the Rivers Century, “this is not just a party for wild century cyclists,” Pfremmer said. He added the event is an opportunity to raise a glass with a broad network of folks who are driven to build on their visions for an energetic, thriving region in which people walk, bike, and have engaging conversations with their neighbors. The event will be family-friendly. Downtown STL Inc., which serves to promote business interests in St. Louis’ downtown area, will help Trailnet turn the Old Post Office Plaza into a festival where people are invited to mingle and share the street. Pfremmer said the St. Louis Blues Society will bring some of the city’s most prolific musicians to preform throughout the event and attendees will have the opportunity to support Shift, the latest project from Bailey’s Restaurants. Attracting more than 700 each year, the Ride the Rivers Century is considered one of the best 100-mile rides in the Midwest. Those interested in riding can register at trailnet.org and stay at the Ballpark Hilton St. Louis for a special rider rate of $89 per night (typically $144) from Friday, September 18, to Sunday, September 20. The cost includes breakfast for two. Secure 24-hour valet parking is available for $10. At the beginning the Ride the River Century, Trailnet will hoist Tibetan-style prayer flags made from donated bicycling jerseys meant to honor Missourians who have been killed in traffic crashes. As of July, that number for 2015 is 434—a six-percent increase from 2014. Jersey donations may be dropped off or mailed to the Trailnet office, located at 411 N. 10th Street, Suite 202. Ride packet pickup is at the Trailnet office on Friday, September 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or at the Ballpark Hilton Saturday, September 19, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Event Sponsors: AARP in St. Louis, American Water, Bailey’s Restaurants, Development Resource Partners, E.M.
