Tulsa Children's Chorus to Sing with Grammy Winning Opera Star Leona Mitchell

TULSA, Okla. - Sept. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- Tulsa Children's Chorus is excited to announce the launch of its 25th Anniversary season through a special performance with native Oklahoman and Metropolitan Opera star Leona Mitchell. The event, Leona Mitchell: Two Worlds One Voice, will take place at 7pm on the evening of October 3, 2015 at the Tulsa Garden Center.

“This is such an amazing opportunity for the children in the chorus. We are actually using Ms. Mitchell’s history with opera and classical music as part of our curriculum,” says Kimberly Norman, President of the Tulsa Children’s Chorus. In duet with Ms. Mitchell, children from the chorus will sing He’s Got the Whole World In His Hand. Mitchell will debut her new foray into the world of jazz and will debut her new album, Leona Mitchell - Two Worlds One Voice: A Tribute to Chet Baker. Ms. Mitchell will also sing several of her signature Opera pieces and her Grammy Award winning song, Summertime.

Ms. Mitchell is a Grammy award-winning soprano who sang for 18 seasons as a leading spinto soprano with the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She has sung for five U.S. presidents, kings and queens and has performed with The Three Tenors: Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras. Proceeds from the evening will be used to complete her documentary, Heart of a Diva – The Leona Mitchell Story, which will be submitted to national and international film festivals in 2016. A special trailer of the film will be shown the night of the concert.

Tulsa Children's Chorus is truly honored to share the stage with Ms. Mitchell for this very special evening. The opportunity for our young singers to experience this type of high-caliber collaborative performance with one of the country's most prominent singing legends is extraordinary.
