Event Synopsis:

Despite U.S Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) initiatives aimed to reduce Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) violations by all employers, the need to educate employers about compliance – and ICE’s enforcement and penalties for non-compliance – is still evident. For example, Employer Solutions Staffing Group II, LLC recently was fined over $200,000 after ICE brought a compliance action against the employer for failure to ensure proper completion of Forms I-9, which requires that employers verify each employee’s identification and authorization to work in the United States.  Within three days of hire, employees must complete and sign the first section of the form and employers must verify the employee’s identity and employment eligibility by reviewing certain of the employee’s identifying documents and completing the second section of the form. However straightforward the form may seem, I-9 compliance can be a challenge for workers and business owners…with costly consequences for noncompliance. Thus, it is crucial to review recent I-9 policies and changes to the form itself to avoid possible lawsuits and severe monetary penalties.

In this two-hour LIVE Webcast, a panel of distinguished professionals and thought leaders will help the audience understand the important legal aspects of the Employment Eligibility Verification Form. They will also provide an in-depth discussion of the general issues in the proper completion (and updating) of Form I-9. Speakers will enumerate common I-9 violations, the risks that come with them, and the possible ways to mitigate them. They will also offer best practices in ensuring compliance with immigration laws.

Key topics include:

§  Employment Eligibility Verification – An Overview

§  Revised I-9 Form and Requirements

§  Recent Guidance on Electronic I-9 Systems and Internal Audits

§  Compliance and Risk Issues

§  Common I-9 Violations and Mistakes

§  Possible Fines and Penalties
