Follow on Google News | Gift Wellness joins Convoy to CalaisGift Wellness’s CEO, Zareen Ahmed will be joining a large aid convoy heading for the port of Calais on Saturday 26th September 2015, to personally distribute Gift Sanitary pads to the female refugees at the huge makeshift camp near the Euro Tunnel.
Zareen said; “We’ve already sent over 85,000 Gift pads to women in Syrian refugee camps as part of our charitable aims and more recently, as part of our BUY1 GIFT1 initiative, but the convoy is different. Distributing the sanitary pads out to women myself will no doubt have a huge impact on me personally.” The Halimah Trust was established in memory of Zareen’s daughter Halimah, who was tragically murdered at the age of 19 by a mental health patient in 2007, near their home in Derby. Halimah had just started university with the aim to have a career in Third World Development. “It was all she ever wanted to do”; Zareen explained. “Even as young as 11, she made cakes and sold them in school to raise funds for victims of disasters, and was awarded certificates from various charities. Ironically, the perpetrator, who had been stalking her prior to the attack was a refugee from Iraq who suffered from severe post traumatic stress having seen loved ones killed in the war. He represented exactly the kind of cause that Halimah was committed to helping.” Soon after it happened Halimah’s family & friends set up the Trust with the aim of fulfilling Halimah’s ambitions. Four years later, Zareen set up Gift Wellness, with a key objective of further boosting the charity work through a corporate enterprise driven by a strong social purpose. “As the Chair of the Halimah Trust, my aim is that not only will this convoy help to alleviate some of the urgent needs of the asylum seekers in Calais, but more importantly, we hope it will send a strong message to David Cameron that he needs to take immediate steps to process the asylum applications of these desperate people who are literally on Britain’s doorstep, asking for our help”.
