A New Brand of Textile Recycling, 2ReWear Comes Online with Fashion House Nice Laundry

CLIFTON, N.J. - Sept. 8, 2015 - PRLog -- 2ReWear’s reuse and recycling program makes it easy for people to recycle their clothing, footwear and household textiles at participating online and store retailers. 2ReWear’s “ecosystem for what you wear™” gives a second life to what we wear and offers discounts on future purchases at participating 2ReWear retailers.

Approximately 30 billion pounds of textiles are generated in the U.S. each year and 85% of those textiles are thrown out. The average American trashes 81 pounds of textiles each year, which equates to 25 billion pounds of textiles sent to landfills annually. Current textile recycling efforts in the U.S. only capture 15% of what could have recycled. The need to close the loop on textiles and post-consumer waste has never been greater.

“2ReWear’s network has a recycling capacity of more than 100 million pounds of post-consumer waste annually,” Eric Stubin, 2ReWear CEO. “We have the industry’s largest network of facilities and partners providing turnkey recycling services to apparel, footwear and household textile brands and retailers.  Leading sustainable brands such as Nice Laundry and 2ReWear are leading the effort to help close the loop on textile waste.”
Founded as a benefit corporation, a critical component of 2ReWear’s mission is to provide monetary support to not-for-profit organizations for every pound of collected clothing, footwear and household textiles. 2ReWear contributes to causes selected by retailers participating in 2ReWear’s program. 2ReWear’s goal is to expand on the tens of millions of dollars paid to recognized charities by its parent corporations.

2ReWear is proud to provide recycling services to Nice Laundry, a men’s designer sock company. With each purchase from Nice Laundry, the company provides a paid shipping label for consumers to conveniently recycle their old socks.

This month the lead scientist for NRDC Clean By Design program, Linda Greer, announced “2ReWear, a clothing recycling plant, keeps thousands of tons of used clothing out of landfills each year by collecting and sorting it for resale into domestic and foreign markets, or recycling it into secondary products for the building and automotive industry. Many thanks to its CEO Eric Stubin … and his work to lower the environmental footprint of this industry!

“Reuse and Recycling is a major part of Nice Laundry’s consumer experience and central to the ethos of our company.  2ReWear provides a turnkey recycling solution for our brand and our consumers, with recycling centers and a clearly defined reverse supply chain.  2Rewear has played an integral part in making us a leading sustainable company, “Ricky Choi – Nice Laundry’s CEO.

“2ReWear’s streamlined and consumer friendly sustainability programs have been invaluable.  In 2015 we anticipate recycling more than 3 tons of socks in large part thanks to 2ReWear.  This year our plans include providing our customers with loyalty program perks when they recycle their socks, while also raising funds for important causes,” Choi.

About 45% of collected clothing and 95% of collected footwear is reused "as is." Most apparel and footwear that's reused "as is" is exported and sold in markets around the world that demand affordable clothing.

Nearly half of all recycled apparel, household textiles and accessories are relooped and recycled. Roughly 20% of these recycled materials become recycled fibers, ultimately become insulation for homes and vehicles, carpet padding and furniture stuffing. Approximately 30% of the recycled materials are reclaimed and converted into wiping rags used as absorbents in industrial and residential applications. Increasingly, some percentage of fibers are being recaptured for apparel companies that use cutting edge technology to recycle 100% polyester fiber into new polyester fibers.
