SAN FRANCISCO - Sept. 4, 2015 - PRLog -- The Beat Museum and Copus Music present … CD release party of “Aspects”.  COPUS is an acronym of Creation Of Peace Under Stars.  It is a spoken word/world beat ensemble that weaves together dynamic lyrical forms with passionate, melodic landscapes.

Formed by renowned San Francisco poet/spoken word artist Royal Kent and ASCAP award-winning composer/pianist Wendy Loomis, COPUS has performed at clubs, theaters, and festivals in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Nashville, Atlanta, Boston, and Western Massachusetts.  Along with Kent and Loomis, the band includes flutist Monica Williams, bassist Patrick Mahon, drummer Greg McRay, and various guest artists on percussion and vocals.  In the words of music critic Michael Allison, “COPUS could become legendary if given the opportunity to thrive!”

Through words and music this new CD explores the aspects of our lives – creatively, emotionally, financially, spiritually.  “Aspects” includes 10 original compositions and one very special cover.  COPUS presents an arrangement of Jimi Hendrix’s “1983 A Merman I Should Turn to Be” with poignant anti-war lyrics written in 1968 that seem just as relevant today.

The cover artwork on “Aspects” is by long-time San Francisco painter Stevenski Brewster who now makes his home in New York.  Cover design is by Nick Schuller.  Guest artists vocalist Barbara Jaspersen and percussionists Omar Clark Taylor and Martyn ‘the Professa’ Smith contribute their talents to the mix.

The Beat Museum is dedicated to spreading the spirit of the Beat Generation, which they define as tolerance, compassion and having the courage to live individual truth.  The Beats, as in beaten down and beatific, were a collective of writers, artists and thinkers that congregated in 1950s San Francisco.  The Beat Museum is home to an extensive collection of Beat memorabilia; located in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood, they occupy the same ground that was once the epicenter for Beat activity during the 1950s.

Please join us for an evening of poetry, music, scintillating conversation, and general revelry at the historical and ever-changing Beat Museum.
