“We pay homage to labor on this day and everyday but we know it’s more than just building cars and trucks – it’s about building communities. That’s why we are sponsoring the Holiday Meals on Wheels and volunteering to pack and deliver meals to homebound seniors on Labor Day for the Detroit Area Agency on Aging,” - Jimmy Settles, Vice President and Director of UAW National Ford Department.
WHEN: The packaging of cold items will take place on Friday September 4, 2015 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The packaging of hot meals will take place on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2015 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., with delivery of meals beginning at 8 a.m. This leads to the kick off of the Laborfest Labor Day Parade beginning at 9:30 a.m.
WHERE: CORKTOWN – Volunteers will meet at Valley Services to assist with meal packaging. The address is 1980 Bagley, Detroit, Michigan 48216, at the corner of Rosa Park Blvd, south of Michigan Avenue, near old Tiger Stadium. The Laborfest Labor Day parade will begin at Michigan & Trumbull and end at the UAW Ford Programs Center, located at 151 West Jefferson, Detroit, MI.
WHO: DAAA Holiday Meals on Wheels feeds thousands of homebound seniors. Due to Federal funds being unavailable during the holidays, campaigns, fundraisers and private contributions help raise funds to feed seniors. This year’s holiday meal deliveries are made possible by the contributions of UAW Ford, Detroit Area Agency on Aging, and the hundreds of individuals, partnering organizations, corporations, and churches. These contributions allow the Detroit Area Agency on Aging to feed homebound seniors on Easter, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. www.DetroitSeniorSolution.com
The UAW Ford Department is rooted in the spirit of labor and management cooperation. The UAW-Ford relationship also has grown over the years and today serves as a benchmark for how labor and management can successfully work together for the benefit of all. The UAW and Ford are more than just workers and a manufacturer that builds cars and trucks. Together, they’ve become leading supporters in the communities where they live and work, and are making substantial contributions to the quality of life of neighborhoods with artwork, music, athletics, and mentoring abilities. http://www.uawford.com/
