Premier TV Movie Dramatizes Nautical Tale from Book Issued by Rhode Island Publisher

New Zealand production "Abandoned" is based on the story told in Steven Callahan's CAPSIZED, published by New Street Communications of Wickford, RI

NEWPORT, R.I. - Aug. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- Airing as a two-part mini-series on New Zealand television this week, and around the world in due course, the film Abandoned dramatizes the saga relayed in the book Capsized: Jim Nalepka's Epic 119 Day Survival Voyage Aboard the Rose-Noëlle, written by New York Times bestselling author Steven Callahan and published by Rhode Island's own New Street Communications.

The book and film tell the true tale of four men who survived a nearly four-month-long struggle to remain alive aboard their capsized trimaran - the Rose-Noëlle - on the stormy seas of the wintry South Pacific.

Directed by John Laing and with a screenplay by Stephanie Johnson, Abandoned stars Dominic Purcell (John Doe, Assault on Wall Street, Blade: Trinity, Equilibrium, Mission Impossible II) as Jim Nalepka, the sole American crewmember. Purcell is joined by Peter Feeney (Black Sheep, Thirty Days of Night), along with Owen Black and Greg Johnson.

Newporter and Cruising World Senior Editor Herb McCormick has said of Capsized: "The strange, amazing and absorbing tale of survival following the capsize of the trimaran Rose-Noelle remains one of the classic sea stories of this or any other era. Capsized is many things: a psychological thriller, a seafaring mystery, and of course a saga of adventure. Nobody other than Steve Callahan could truly relate to or fully understand what the 4-man crew ultimately experienced and overcame. And no one but Steve Callahan could've written this engaging, disturbing, philosophical book."

Capsized author Steven Callahan originally gained fame with his worldwide mega-selling memoir Adrift: Seventy-Six Days Lost at Sea (Houghton Mifflin, 1986), which has been translated into 16 languages. Steven has as well served as technical consultant for many ocean-based films, most recently Life of Pi and Ron Howard's adaptation of Nathaniel Philbrick's bestseller In The Heart of the Sea.

"We're excited to have the story of Jim Nalepka and his crewmates reach a wider audience," says New Street Managing Director Ed Renehan. "It's a riveting tale, and one that we've been proud to publish."

New Street makes Capsized available in paper, Kindle, and audio formats.
