Leap Books: Seek Signs Debut Author Rick Starkey

OTHER, N.Y. - Aug. 25, 2015 - PRLog -- Kelly Hashway at Leap Books Seek has acquired world rights for Rick Starkey’s debut middle grade novel BLUES BONES in which a thirteen-year-old boy uses voodoo to overcome stage fright and has to suffer the consequences of dabbling in dark magic.

“This book had me at voodoo, but it was Starkey's use of humor that kept me reading. Despite being a debut, Starkey comes across as a seasoned writer with how well he weaves very real preteen issues, magic, and music. The book has something for everyone, and the ending is one of the best I've ever read,” says Hashway.

No stranger to the music scene, Starkey plays the guitar and writes children’s songs. He and his wife own and run Make it Magic, a magic shop and craft store in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Starkey is a graduate of the Institute of Children's Literature. His publishing credits include selling both nonfiction and fiction short stories to Highlights for Children. His main interest is writing novels for middle grade readers.

BLUES BONES is set to release in spring 2016.
