YoOceans! to Sponsor “Deconstructing Eden,” Newest Film from Filmmaker Rick Wood
CHICAGO, IL (August 25, 2015) – YoOceans!, a nonprofit dedicated to teaching the public about challenges facing marine mammals in the wild and captivity is pleased to announce a partnership with independent filmmaker Rick Wood to sponsor his newest film, “Deconstructing Eden.” (Movie Trailer) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYbxJ5C_p3c&feature=youtu.be)

“Deconstructing Eden” shines a light on the California sea lions that are dying in record numbers this year. Particularly hard hit have been the sea otters of Moss Landing, California, that have been exposed to toxic algae. Also working against these magnificent sea creatures are drought, changing sea composition, prey source migration, pollution and even random poachers invaded their habitat. “The collapse of a critical ecosystem hangs in the balance,” Wood says. And he is right, these otters are so vital to their habitat, that without them, the estuary would begin to deteriorate.

While sad, it is a somewhat fixable situation and there are steps that can be taken quickly. “Deconstructing Eden” is more of a project than film, and is broken down into three different components: the film, an accompanying book with other published writings and educating through public speaking events. “Education is the key here” says Rick.

Following that spirit of education, YoOceans! is proud to answer the call to help educate the public and assist in helping to protect the sea lions that call Moss Landing home. YoOceans! has set up a fundraising page (http://www.yooceans.org/deconstructing-eden/) to take donations on behalf of the movie. All money raised (sans any related fees) will be sent directly to Rick in support of this important and necessary project. Each and every donation is important and will go a long way towards protecting the animals we so desperately need in our environment. Be a part of the project that is aimed at saving California sea lions and the places they call home.
